Jakarta: Police suspect that the stabber of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto planned the attack ahead of the incident.
Identified with the initials SA, the attacker waited for the minister to arrive at Menes Square, Pandeglang, Banten.
"The visit was widely known to the public," said National Police spokesperson Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo at National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
Dedi said that the motive for the attack is still being explored. SA was arrested along with a young woman.
"The two perpetrators are still being questioned by the Pandeglang Regional Police, Banten Regional Police and Detachment 88 (PoliceSpecial Detachment 88 Anti-Terror)," said the official.
Wiranto was attacked by an assailant while at the Menes Square in Pandeglang, Banten, Thursday, October 10, 2019, at around 11:30 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
The assailant dressed in black suddenly broke through security shortly after Wiranto got out of his vehicle. Wiranto suffered stab wounds to the lower abdomen. Wiranto was then rushed to a medical center in Pandeglang. He was then transferred to the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.
"He was brought to us and arrived in a conscious condition," Director of Berkah Regional General Hospital Firmansyah told Metro Tv this afternoon.
"We immediately handled and carried out the necessary steps and thank God he is in a stable condition," he added.
