Yogyakarta: Yogyakarta Police head Inspector General Dhmad Dhofiri has announced that polling stations in the province will be guarded by 6,688 police officers.
Indonesia will hold its first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters will elect the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.
According to the official data from the General Elections Commission (KPU), as many as 192 million people will be eligible to vote this year. In addition to that, more than 800 thousand polling stations will be established across the country.
"1,600 military personnel will assist our officers. 30,023 community protection (Linmas) officers will help secure the polling stations," the Yogyakarta Police leader said here on Monday.
The Elections Supervision Board (Bawaslu) updated the 2019 elecotral political index early this month. It identified provinces which are prone with electoral-related conflicts.
According to the report, as many as 16 provinces have above the average KPI score. Furthermore, Papua province has the highest IKP score.
"IKP is different with regular surveys. IKP is designed to prevent conflicts," Bawaslu commissioner Mochammad Afifuddin told journalists on Tuesday.
This year, 16 national political parties will participate on a national level. In the meantime, Four local political parties will only participate in Aceh province.
The national political parties are PDIP, Golkar Party, Gerindra Party, Democratic Party, PAN, PKB, PKS, PPP, NasDem Party, Hanura Party, PKPI, PBB, Perindo Party, Berkarya Party, PSI and Garuda Party. The local political parties are Aceh Party, SIRA Party Aceh Regional Party and Nanggroe Aceh Party.
Similar with 2014, the 2019 presidential race will be contested by Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Prabowo Subianto. Five years ago, Jokowi won 53 percent of the votes against Prabowo.
KPU held the last presidential election debate at Sultan Hotel, Senayan, Central Jakarta on Saturday. The questions covered the issues of economy, social welfare, trade, investment, finance and industry.
