Jakarta: Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is leading Bagyo Wahyono in the 2020 Solo Mayoral Race.
Based on a quick count survey organized by survey agency Charta Politika, is predicted to get more than 80 percent votes.
"Gibran statistically has won," Charta Politika Executive Director told Metro TV here on Wednesday afternoon.
Also known as Surakarta, Solo is Jokowi's hometown and political base. Before serving as Jakarta Governor, Jokowi led Solo for seven years from 2005 to 2012. Besides Gibran, Bobby Nasution, Jokowi's son-in-law, is competing in the 2020 Medan Mayoral Election.
On Wednesday, regional leader elections were held simultaneously in 9 provinces, 37 cities and 224 regencies.
To curb the spread of coronavirus, polling stations were equipped with a place for washing hands and applying hand sanitizers. In addition, officers and voters were required to wear masks, maintain their distance as well as prevent crowds. The officers were also required to check the voters’ body temperature to ensure that they are also in good health.
