Jakarta: Former President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was buried with fully military honors at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta on Thursday, September 12, 2019.
The third Indonesian president was buried next to his beloved wife Ainun Habibie. The funeral procession was led by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
"We are here to pay our last respect to him," President Jokowi said.
"All Indonesian people mourn the passing of former President BJ Habibie," President Jokowi added.
Indonesia's third president passed away at the age of 83 at the Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital in Central Jakarta at 06:05 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He died of old age.
Habibie was born in Pare Pare, South Sulawesi on June 25, 1936. He was the fourth child in a family of eight children.
Habibie is considered as the pioneer of the Indonesian aviation industry. He is also widely known as the country's Father of Technology.
