Rehabilitation of Damaged Schools is a Priority in Wamena: Minister

Jakarta: Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Muhadjir Effendy is committed to rehabilitating schools damaged by a recent riot in Wamena. 
 
The rehabilitation process will be quickly carried out to ensure the implementation of the teaching and learning process of local students.
 
Muhadjir said, of the 50 education centers in the city of Wamena, 23 of them were damaged. 10 of them being junior high school (SMP) buildings
 
Moreover, as many as five elementary schools (SD) and five high schools (SMA), and three vocational high schools (SMK) suffered moderate damage. 
 
In addition to that, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) cooperates with World Vision Indonesia (WVI), the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the Regional Police, and the Faculty of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) will conduct trauma counseling for the victims, especially teachers and students.
 
"The program will continue until the recovery is complete," Muhadjir said in a press release received by Medcom.id, Wednesday, October 16, 2019.
 
In terms of the health and nutrition of Papuan children, Muhadjir ensured that the Healthy Children Program (Progas) that was launched last year could be extended to all regions in Papua and asked the Health Office to provide vitamins to ensure children's health.
 
"Later I will coordinate with the Minister of Health (Nila Moeloek) to provide additional food and vitamins so that the nutrition of children in Papua is guaranteed, as well as a healthy breakfast program at the schools," Muhadjir said.
