Jakarta: A fire in the Class 1 Tangerang Penitentiary, Tangerang, Banten killed at least 41 people on Wednesday early morning.
According to Breaking New Metro TV, the victims were brought to Regional Public Hospital (RSUD) of Tangerang City and Citra Raya Hospital.
"The fire started at around 1.50 am at Block C of the Class 1 Tangerang Penitentiary," the spokesperson of the Directorate General of Corrections (DRC) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), Rika Aprianti, told Metro TV.
According to her, officials are still gathering information.
"The general public are urged to stay patient," she stated.
