Jakarta: The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lembata Regency reported that at least 11 people lost their lives after flash floods hit the region on Sunday morning.

Moreover, at least 16 residents are still missing.

"Heavy rainfall triggered the flash floods," said Raditya Jati, the Head of the Data, Information, Disaster Communication Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) in a press release on Monday morning.

According to a report by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), most areas in Indonesia have the potential to experience extreme weather from April 3 until April 9.

Lembata and other regions in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province have the potential to experience heavy rain this week.

To tackle the impact of the potential extreme weather, BNPB and other related government regencies have urged residents to remain vigilant.
