Jakarta: Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti hopes that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will continue her program at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Susi claimed to have built a good system in the ministry.
"Everything, all our policies must be continued, because what we have done has been very good," Susi said at Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 14, 2019.
Susi did not specify what the program meant. However, she did mention the issue of handling fish theft in Indonesian waters or Indonesia's exclusive economic zone.
Susi said that sinking these illegal fishing vessels are more effective than auctioning them off. The reason being is that these thieves can go back to their illegal activities if these ships were auctioned.
"The ships must sink. We've caught these ships several times, then auctioned them off, but they were bought by the ones who had previously owned them. Finally, they return to sea to catch our fish," she said.
The minister doesn't want to waste time and energy. She stresses that the sinking is a more effective prevention method.
The elected President and Vice President, Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin will be appointed at the parliamentary complex on October 20, 2019. The ministers' tenure on the working cabinet will automatically end at that time.
Jokowi hasn't announced the names of his cabinet ministers. The cabinet announcements would be made after the inauguration.
