Brake Failure Leads to Tourist Bus Accident in Subang, Resulting in 11 Deaths

Jakarta: A tourist bus carrying a group of students from Lingga Kencana Vocational High School in Depok overturned in the Ciater District, Subang Regency, West Java. The bus swerved and hit a Feroza car and a motorcycle before flipping over. Eleven people were declared dead in this fatal accident.
 
The Ministry of Transportation (MoT) stated that the Trans Putera Fajar bus involved in the accident in Subang, West Java, did not have operating permits. This means that the bus involved in the fatal accident in Palasari Village, Ciater, Subang, West Java, was operating illegally.
 
"In checks on the Mitra Darat application, the bus was found to have no operating permits, and its periodic inspection status had expired since December 6, 2023," said Aznal, Head of Legal Affairs and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Land Transportation (DG Hubdat) at the MoT, in a statement on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

He mentioned that the cause of the fatal accident was suspected to be brake failure. The tourist bus with license plate number AD 7524 OG crashed at 6:45 PM WIB on Saturday night, May 11, 2024. The bus was carrying a group of students from Lingga Kencana Vocational High School, Depok, West Java, from Bandung to Subang.
 
The bus suddenly swerved to the right and hit a motorcycle on the opposite lane and roadside, causing it to overturn. Eleven people lost their lives in this tragic incident.
 
The victims were taken to several healthcare facilities including the Ciereng Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Hamori Hospital, Jalancagak Health Center, and Palasari Health Center.
 
Aznal explained that the DG of Land Transportation is currently coordinating with the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident. The MoT urges all bus companies (PO) and drivers to periodically check the condition of their fleets, register for operating permits, and regularly undergo vehicle inspections.
 
All members of the public using public bus transportation are also advised to check the roadworthiness of the vehicles before departure using the Mitra Darat application, which can be downloaded on their phones.
