Jakarta: The House of Representative (DPR) Commission I Vice-Chairman Abdul Kharis Almasyhari questioned the Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto's planto send cadets to Malaysia.
He said that the plan does not have clear reasons and purposes.
“We have not yet to know what the intention is behind the sending of our cadets. Is it like a student exchange program? We do not know yet. We will ask more questions on the regard in the next meeting,” Abdul said here on Monday, November 18, 2019.
According to Abdul, if it is similar to a student exchange program, he will happily support the plan.
“It is impossible for cadets to finish their military education abroad," he said.
Abdul stated that the next meeting will be held in January after the parliamentary recess. Abdul decided to refrain himself from talking too much on the regard because he does not know the main intention of Prabowo’s plan.
Previously, the Indonesian defense minister planned to send cadets to study in Malaysia after he met with his Malaysian counterpart, Mohammad Bin Sabu, in Malaysia last week.
“We are committed to building bilateral relations with Malaysia. So, we will send our cadets to Malaysia to study there.” said the Defense Ministry spokesperson Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak on Friday, November 15, 2019.
