Jakarta: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asks regional heads to be ready and alert in facing various disasters. Indonesia is expected to face an extreme rainy season until February 2020.
"Be vigilant and be prepared to face disasters in this extreme rainy season," he said when opening a plenary cabinet session at the State Palace, Jalan Veteran, Jakarta on Monday, January 6, 2020.
In addition to regional heads, Jokowi also touched on ministries and institutions. Their fast movements are also needed to reduce the impact of disasters.
"I need to remind you again," he added.
Moreover, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), Indonesian National Police (Polri), National SAR Agency (Basarnas) and The Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) were also asked to be more alert in assisting the evacuation process in the field. Jokowi does not want the public to wait a long time because the process is slow.
"I don't need to repeat the command again. I think everyone understands," he concluded.
Heavy rain from 31 December 2019 night to 1 January 2020 morning, caused flooding in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta Area) regions. The Jakarta Provincial Government has deployed 120 thousand officers to deal with floods.
