Jakarta: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to visit Indonesia next year. This is a return visit after President Joko Widodo visited Turkey in 2017.
Erdogan's planned visit was conveyed in a joint statement by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
"Erdogan's visit will mark the improvement of relations between Indonesia and Turkey to a new order," Foreign Minister Retno said in a statement delivered virtually to the media crew.
In next year's visit, Erdogan and Jokowi are scheduled to launch the High-Level Strategic Council.
Later, the High-Level Strategic Council, which is currently still being explored, will become a forum for the leaders of the two countries to regularly discuss various bilateral, regional and multilateral strategic issues of common interest.
"After this, Foreign Minister Mevlut will also pay an honorary visit to President Joko Widodo," said Foreign Minister Retno.
Foreign Minister Mevlut confirmed Erdogan's planned visit, which he said would take place next year, without specifying the month and date. "The established relations between President Erdogan and Widodo have further strengthened our bilateral relations in many areas," he said.
"Next year maybe we can celebrate (the 70th anniversary) of diplomatic relations, because this year is not possible," said Foreign Minister Mevlut.
