Lolak Dam's Project Completion Scheduled in May 2022

Jakarta: North Sulawesi's Lolak Dam project is expected to be completed in May 2022 as per the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing's timetable, the management of state-owned construction company PT PP (Persero) Tbk stated.
 
"As of the first week of April 2022, the work to construct Lolak Dam is 96-percent complete," PT PP (Persero) Tbk Corporate Secretary Yuyus Juarsa noted in his statement on Tuesday.
 
The corporate secretary remarked that Lolak Dam is located in Pindol Village, Lolak Sub-district, Bolaang Mongondow District, some 210 kilometers southwest of the province's capital, Manado.

Lolak Dam is one of the 45 dam projects designated as national strategic projects, as the dam is located within the Bolaang Mongondow Industrial Zone development area and is expected to bolster North Sulawesi's economic activities, he stated.
 
Juarsa noted that the progress in construction is divided into two stages while adding that works conducted in the first stage were excavation and instrumentation as well as development of the main embankment, temporary cofferdam, and the main cofferdam.
 
Works in the second stage comprise the construction of the main embankment, the dam spillway and diversion channel, the dam intake structure, two saddle dams, hydromechanical works, and reinforcement of the dam's left pedestal, he revealed.
 
The corporate secretary noted that while the first construction stage is wholly conducted by the company, the second construction stage is conducted along with ASHFRI company through a joint operation scheme.
 
Upon completion, the Lolak Dam, with its capacity of 6.1 million cubic metres and water discharge capacity of 500 litres per second, is expected to provide water to 2,214 hectares of land in North Sulawesi Province and reduce flood discharge by 12 percent, the corporate secretary noted.
 
The dam is also projected to become a new power plant, with electricity output potential of 2.43 MW, and become a new tourism attraction in the region, he said.
