Banjarmasin: At least 209,884 hectarus of agricultural farms have been damaged by massive floods in South Kalimantan Province in the past weeks, the Indonesian Farmers Association (SPI) said on Wednesday
According to the Chairman of the South Kalimantan Chapter of SPI Dwi Putra Kurniawan, the flooding has also displaced as many as 18,000 farmers in the province.
"The central government and local governments should pay attention to the flood-affected farmers and their agricultural farms," the SPI official told Media Indonesia.
On Monday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inspected flood-affected areas in Pakauman, East Martapura, Banjar Regency during his visit to South Kalimantan.
During the inspection, the President handed over assistance of basic necessities, ready-to-eat food, and masks to a number of residents in the affected locations.
On the Pekauman Bridge, President Jokowi also gave orders to relevant officials, including Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Doni Monardo. (Denny Susanto)
