Bandung: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated Nanjung tunnel in Bandung regency, West Java province on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. The tunnel was built to reduce the risk of flooding in the region.
Jokowi and his entourage arrived at the location at around 09.40 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Jokowi was accompanied by West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto, Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and Bandung Regent Dadang Naser.
"Thank God, the construction of Nanjung tunnel has completed. It is part of our efforts to control floods in Bandung basin," Jokowi said here on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
"We hope that floods can be prevented next year," he added.
According to the West Java governor, the West Java provincial administration and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry are currently preparing other supporting infrastructure. To prevent floods in Bandung and its surrounding areas, authorities will build retention ponds and channels.
"This is not the only project. We should not be satisfied. We and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry will build retention ponds and channels to control floods," Ridwan remarked.
