No Casualties Reported after Strong Earthquake Shakes Mentawai Islands

Jakarta: The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Mentawai Islands Regency said that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damages after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook West Sumatra Province this morning.
 
"There were no immediate reports of casualties or damages," said the BPBD's executive chairman Novriadi in a statement on Tuesday morning.
 
According to the BPBD official, the earthquake was felt strongly in several areas in Mentawai Islands Regency, particularly the western coast of Siberut Island.

Based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake did not trigger tsunami warnings.
 
With a depth of around 13 kilometers, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 112 kilometers southwest of Tuapejat City, Mentawai Islands Regency, West Sumatra Province.
 
"Thank God, we do not need to evacuate our people." the BPBD official stated.
