Jakarta: The founder of Kompas Gramedia, Jakob Oetama, passed away at the age of 88. He was previously treated at Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital North Jakarta.
"Yes, (Jakob) passed away," the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Commissioner, Beka Hulung Hapsari, told Medcom.id on Wednesday.
Beka said that Jakob died of old age. She revealed that he had been sick for a long time.
"He had been sick for a long time and also the age factor," she said.
Jakob was born in Borobudur, Magelang, on September 27, 1931. He founded Intisari magazine with P.K Ojong in 1963.
On June 28, 1965, Jakob and Ojong founded the Kompas daily. The business grew into one of the largest media conglomerates in the country.
