Singapore: The attack on the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Wiranto drew sympathy from Singapore. The Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the incident that took place on Thursday, October 10th.
"Singapore condemns the senseless terrorist attack on Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto in Banten, Indonesia," said the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a press release received by Medcom.id on October 10, 2019.
"We wish Coordinating Minister Wiranto and the others who were injured a swift and complete recovery," they continued.
Wiranto who had just gotten out of the car to shake hands with the residents was attacked by the assailant while at the Menes Square in Pandeglang, Banten, Thursday, October 10, 2019, at around 11:30 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
Wiranto was then rushed to the Berkah Pandeglang Hospital to receive treatment. He was then transferred by helicopter to the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.
Police identified the assailants as 31-year-old Syahril Alamsyah and his wife, Fitri Andriana, 21. Both are believed to have been exposed to the Islamic State (ISIS) group.
"They are members of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), an extremist group responsible for suicide bombings in churches in Surabaya, last year," said Head of the State Intelligence Agency Budi Gunawan told reporters in Jakarta.
JAD is among dozens of radical groups that have expressed loyalty to the ISIS group in Indonesia.
