More Than 4,000 Evacuated after Mount Ile Lewotolok Erupts

Jakarta: More than 4,000 residents who live near Mount Ile Lewotolok, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province were forced to flee their homes after the volcano erupted on Sunday morning.
 
According to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Lembata Regency, there were no reports of casualties due to Sunday's eruption.
 
Moreover, the evacuees currently stay in seven evacuation areas across the regency.

"The BPBD of Lemabata Regency recorded as many as 4,628 evacuees in seven areas," stated the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) in a press release on Monday.
 
There was an eruption of Mount Ile Lewotolok on Sunday morning with the observed height of the ash column around 4,000 m above the peak. 
 
The ash column was observed to be gray with a thick intensity leaning east and west. 
 
This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 35 mm and a duration of around 10 minutes.
