Jakarta: The Ministry of Environmental Affairs and Forestry (KLHK) is grieving the loss of six employees of the Sebangau National Park, who died in a speedboat accident in Sebangau River, Central Kalimantan, on Monday, March 10, 2020.
Minister of Environmental Affairs and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar ordered every environmental and forestry office across Indonesia to hoist a flag at half-mast, as a sign of mourning over the demise of the six staff members while conducting their duties.
Seven people comprising the ministry's six employees and Lt Col Bambang Kritianto Bawono, commander of the Kuala Kapuas military office, were killed in the speedboat accident in Sebangau River.
Two staff members of the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta, two employees of the Environmental Affairs and Forestry Ministry, and two military officers were also injured in the accident.
Some 20 survivors were rescued in the accident.
The speedboat carried a group of people intent on surveying an area to be visited by Queen Maxima.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will pay a state visit to Indonesia on March 9-13, 2020.
The King's entourage members include some 180 representatives of 130 Dutch companies and knowledge institutions.
Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi noted that her Dutch counterpart expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the speedboat accident in Central Kalimantan. (Antara)
