Jakarta: The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared 300 water pumps to anticipate flooding during the upcoming rainy season.
The water pumps are located throughout North Jakarta, West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta.
"All water pumps in the five regions are on standby. We will add more pumps to those five regions because each region has different inundation points," Jakarta Water Resources Office (SDA) head said Juaini at City Hall, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.
The SDA Office has also alerted eight thousand water resources personnel known as Blue Troops. They will be placed in locations that are prone to flooding.
"They are on standby waiting to be deployed if needed," he added.
Juaini added that his department has dredged reservoirs and rivers in Indonesia's capital city. He hopes that Jakarta will not be flooded during rainy season.
"We hope the overwhelming water flow will recede and decrease quickly because we have dredged the rivers," he added.
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 15 points of inundation due to heavy rain in Jakarta on Tuesday night, October 8, 2019. Inundations can also be seen in Cawang Village, Kebon Baru, Pejaten Timur, and Pangedegan Village. Water levels range from 15 to 30 centimeters.
