Jakarta: Death toll from flash floods and landslides that hit several regions in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province last week has reached 177, according to NTT Deputy Governor Josef Nae Soi.
"45 people are still missing," said the NTT Deputy Governor in a virtual press conference on Sunday.
Last week, Tropical Cyclone Seroja triggere heavy rain and strong winds in 11 regencies and cities in the eastern Indonesian province.
According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the affected regions are Kupang, East Flores, Central Malaka, Lembata, Ngada, Alor, East Sumba, Rote Ndao, Sabu Raijua, South Central Timor and Ende.
On Tuesday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered related Government institutions to speed up the process of evacuation, searching and rescuing victims who have not been found; ensure the availability of health services and medical assistance needed by the victims; fulfill the needs of the affected residents; as well as accelerate the repair of supporting infrastructure damaged by the disaster.
The President also ordered related Government institutions to be ready for potential disasters that may occur due to extreme weather in various regions in Indonesia.
On Friday, the President paid a working visit to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province to inspect post-disaster relief operation in the region.
He inspected disaster-hit areas in Lembata and East Flores regencies.
