Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asked authorities to temporarily close down parts of the Parliament Complex after the House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Azis Syamsuddin revealed that as many as 40 lawmakers and staff tested positive for coronavirus.
"According to the regulations, if a place has a positive covid-19 case, the place must be temporarily closed down." Anies said here on Wednesday.
"We must follow the rules," he added.
Earlier this week, after the end of the latest session period, the DPR deputy speaker admitted that 18 lawmakers and 22 staff contracted covid-19.
"We will not close down the whole complex. We will only close down buildings that have covid-19 cases. We need to check the complex," Anies explained.
On Tuesday afternoon, The National Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed 4,056 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 311,176.
Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, from Monday noon to Tuesday noon, the total number of confirmed covid-19 recoveries across Indonesia was up by 3,844 to 236,437.
Meanwhile, in the same period, the official covid-19 death toll in the country rose by 121 to 11,374.
