Jakarta: Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim has officially announced a new assessment system replacing the National Exam (UN). This assessment system will begin to be implemented in 2021. Meaning, the 2020 examination will be the final time such an exam will be implemented.
"The implementation of the National Examination in 2021 will be changed to the Minimum Competency Assessment and Character Survey," Nadiem said here in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
"It consists of the ability to reason using language (literacy), the ability to reason using math (numeracy), and the strengthening of character education," Nadiem added.
The test will be conducted by students who are in the middle of the school level (for example grades 4, 8, 11). The results of this exam will not be used as a basis for student selection to the next level.
"This policy direction also refers to practices at the international level such as the PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) and TIMSS (The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study)," Nadiem said.
The policy is part of the Four Basic Programs of "Merdeka Belajar" Education Policy delivered by Nadiem this morning. The program includes the National Standard School Examination (USBN), National Examination (UN), Learning Implementation Plan (RPP), and Zoning Regulations for New Student Acceptance (PPDB).
"The four main educational policy programs will be the direction of future system that focuses on the direction of the President and Vice President in improving the quality of human resources," said the former Gojek Chairman.
