Jakarta : The Government of Thousand Islands Regency has suspended all marine tourism activities in the region.
According to Thousand Islands Regent Junaedi, yhis policy has been implemented since May 15.
“Due to sudden increase in boat passengers who want to visit Thousand Islands that lead to the abandonment of health protocols and the limited availability of antigen rapid tests along with medical personel, operators are advised not to bring tourists to Thousand Islands,” said the Thousand Islands Regent in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to him, boats that are still allowed to operate are the ones that carry passengers with urgent needs in the Thousand Islands such as locals.
The Thousand Islands are a chain of islands to the north of Jakarta's coast.
It forms the only regency of Jakarta Special Capital Region, the capital of Indonesia.
Some tourist attractions in Jakarta, such as Ancol Beach in North Jakarta Municipality, has been closed since May 15. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
