Jakarta: President Director of PT. Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta William Sabandar said the construction of the MRT’s second phase will begin next year.
"Early next year. In March 2020 we will begin the first stage," he said on Friday, November 8, 2019.
William revealed that the new line will be fully underground. The depth of the new line will be 30 meters below the surface.
William added that the new route will go through iconic buildings. Therefore, the development process is predicted to be more difficult and more expensive.
He explained the Old Town area will also be revitalized to support these facilities. The MRT will work closely with the cultural heritage agency to ensure that the construction does not damage the cultural buildings around the MRT route.
"It is more expensive. The total cost depends on the design," he said.
