Jakarta: The National Covid-19 Handling Task Force today confirmed 4,465 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 257,388.
From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, the total number of covid-19 recoveries increased by 3,660 to 187,958, while the total number of confirmed covid-19 deaths rose by 140 to 9,977.
Earlier this week, the Indonesian Goverment announced that the 2020 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) will be held as scheduled on December 9 this year.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Fadjroel Rachman, the policy aims to ensure that people can exercise their constitutional rights.
However, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the holding of the local elections must follow strict health protocols for safety measures.
In addition, the government called on all parties to prevent the potential emergence of new clusters of covid-19 at every stage of the elections.
