Forced Chemical Castration Could Create Mysoped Predators: Expert

M Sholahadhin Azhar • 27 August 2019 12:54
Jakarta: Forensic psychology expert Reza Indragiri is doubtful that forced chemical castration could eradicate paedophilia. He is worried that the castrated pedophiles would instead be more encouraged to continue their action.

“The castrated pedophiles might transform into mysoped predators,” Reza said here on Tuesday.

Reza argued that rehabilitative punishment is more effective to tackle the problem. He proposed that chemical castration should be done voluntarily.

“Chemical castration is effective in other countries because it is done voluntarily.” added Reza.

Reza said that the Doctors’ Association of Indonesia (IDI) has refused to carry out chemical castration. He added that the main obligation of doctors is to heal their patients.

“There is no technical guidance regarding chemical castration. As a result, the Law
No 17 of 2016 can not applied,” said Reza. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
