Jokowi Objects 4 Points in Draft Revision of KPK Law

Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that the Government will not support a number of points in the draft revision of Law Number 30 of 2002 on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Jokowi said KPK should not ask wiretapping permission to a judge. Jokowi added KPK investigators should not only come from the National Police (Polri) and the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

Furthermore, Jokowi stressed that the anti-corruption watchdog should not coordinate with AGO in prosecuting corruption offences. Lastly, Jokowi argued that the agency should continue to manage the submission and examination of public official wealth reports (LHKPN).

"It should be managed by KPK," the former Jakarta governor said here on Friday, September 13, 2019.

President Jokowi earlier signed a Presidential Letter (Supres) on revision to the Law Number 30 of 2002 on KPK. He hopes that the law revision can make KPK stronger.

"Corruption is our common enemy. I want KPK to play central role in eradicating corruption," he stated.
