Jakarta: The Sumenep regency administration decided to temprarily close down a cigarette factory in the region after dozens of its workers contracted covid-19.
The factory is owner by PT Tanjung Odi. The decision has been approved by Sumenep Regent Abuya Busyro Karim.
"We closed down the factory today. The letter was signed by the Sumenep regent yesterday," Sumenep Regency Regional Secretary Edi Rasiyadi said here on Tuesday.
According to the official, as many as 94 factory workers tested positive for coronavirus. To prevent further spread of covid-19, the factory will be closed down for around 21 days.
"However, if the factory can receive the covid-19 task force's approval, it can reopen," Edi explained.
On Tuesday, the National Covid-19 Task Force today confirmed 4,071 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 252,923.
