YIA replaced Adisutjipto International Airport as the main airport in Yogyakarta Special Region. It commenced operations in May 2019.

"The total cost of the project is Rp11.3 trillion," President Jokowi said.

The complex covers 210 thousand square meters of land. It is designed to be able to accommodate 14-20 million passengers per year.

"I understand that we are currently in the middle of a pandemic. So, the airport will not be busy this year. Nevertheless, I believe that the airport will be one of the busiest in the future," President Jokowi said.
