Kulonprogo: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and its supporting facilities on Friday.
"The Yogyakarta International Airport has been 100 percent completed. The completion of the project was very quick. It only needed 20 months," President Jokowi said.
The new airport is located at Temon, Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta Special Region. It is operated by state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I.
YIA replaced Adisutjipto International Airport as the main airport in Yogyakarta Special Region. It commenced operations in May 2019.
"The total cost of the project is Rp11.3 trillion," President Jokowi said.
The complex covers 210 thousand square meters of land. It is designed to be able to accommodate 14-20 million passengers per year.
"I understand that we are currently in the middle of a pandemic. So, the airport will not be busy this year. Nevertheless, I believe that the airport will be one of the busiest in the future," President Jokowi said.
