Odd-Even Traffic Policy Expansion Claimed to be Effective

Cindy, Christopher Harindra • 09 October 2019 11:58
Jakarta: The Jakarta Transportation Agency believes that the odd-even license plate traffic policy expansion is effective for breaking down congestion.

The number of traffic violators has decreased after a month of running the policy.

"The lowest is in South Jakarta area, the total number of violators is quite low," DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo said here on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.

Syafrin did not elaborate on the declining number of violators. Because the data is held by the Metro Jaya Police's Traffic Directorate.

Syafrin said the average vehicle speed has increased from 25 kilometers (km)/ hour to 28.5 km/hour. "Then the traffic volume has decreased by 29.58 percent,  almost 30 percent," said Syafrin.

He also claimed that air quality in Jakarta has improved after this policy. For example, the level of air pollution in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta has decreased by an average of up to 22 percent.

The number of users of public transportation such as TransJakarta has  also increased by 12 percent. PT TransJakarta will add a new fleet to support this increase. "It is planned that soon PT TransJakarta will add 59 new buses to their fleet," he said.
