Jakarta: Maimun Zubair, the leader of Al-Anwar Islamic Boarding School in Rembang, Central Java, passed away at a hospital in Mecca Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning.
Popularly known as Mbah Moen, he died at the age of 90. He was born at Rembang,
Central Java, on 28 October 1928.
“It has been confirmed, Mbah Moen has died at 8.35 a.m.,” Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) official Said Abdul Ghofar Rozin told Medcom.id this morning
According to the NU official, the cause of his death is still being identified. He was handled by presidential doctor Terawan Agus Putrantro.
Mbah Moen once served as a member of the Rembang Legislative Council for seven years. After that, he focused on managing an Islamic boarding school in his hometown. (Translator: Rifqi Akbar)
