Bandung: Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the policy to make transportation fares for the Jakarta Bandung High Speed Train (KCJB) free until mid-October 2023.

"We agree that until mid-October the operation of the Jakarta Bandung High Speed Train will still be free of charge or free," said Luhut when delivering a speech on various agendas for the inauguration of the Jakarta Bandung High Speed Train at Halim Station, East Jakarta, reported by Antara, Monday, October 2 2023.

Over the last three weeks since the opening of the free KCJB trial to the public, said Luhut, the government has seen extraordinary public enthusiasm in welcoming the fast train.

"(The public) immediately felt the benefits for themselves, the Jakarta Bandung High Speed Train, of course everything runs safely and comfortably, thanks to the system's performance which has been tested, thanks to the public's high curiosity about the KCJB free trial," he said.

Luhut said that the agenda for the inauguration of the KCJB was a historical record, that the Indonesian people had succeeded in completing the modern railway project amidst the various challenges that had been overcome.

Challenges of the high-speed train project

The challenges in question include land gaps, cross-interest coordination, and difficult funding problems during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Frankly, since we received the assignment from the President, to continue construction of the high-speed train project at the end of 2019, we have encountered many problems and obstacles," he said.

However, this challenge was successfully overcome thanks to good cooperation between the central government, regional government, state-owned companies, society, private sector and also the Chinese government and all the companies involved.
