National Police Demands Allowance Increase

Damar Iradat • 04 June 2015 14:35
medcom.id, Jakarta: The National Police hopes that the National Police Commission conveyed their aspiration to President Joko Widodo. The police expects an increase of performance allowance, which is now only topped at 33 percent.

"Our hope is that this welfare issue may be put into more attention. We hope the commission to assist in raising the performance allowance. We have now only received 33 percent, if we ask for a raise in salary, it could be troubling," said Inspector General Tito Karnavian, the Assistant of the Chief of Police on General Planning and Developments, at the Commission's Office, Tirtayasa, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Wednesday (6/3/2015).

Tito believes that if the performance allowance is raised, the culture within the force will become better. He thinks that many officials have raced for ranks to earn more.

He also stated that all other allowances are still insufficient. One of them is the allowance for personnel at the border areas. "So that the remote places will receive enough additions," he explained.

"Also the health allowance, we want all personnel to receive BPJS. Lastly is the housing, where we only get 15 percent," he concluded.

The Deputy Speaker of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Desmon J. Mahesa commented on the national police's request. He thinks the increase of the allowance will be hard to be realized.

"Two things. Allowances are related with state income. Whether or not the state income is maximum. If we provide the allowance, what about the others?" Demon said at Senayan Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (6/4/2015).

In addition, national development also utilizes the state budget. Even several ministries' budgets have been partially cut for the sake of national development.

"If it is given, then what about our infrastructure development? Is the money there or not? If we have the money, no problem," he stated.

The Gerindra politician also said, "If the request of increasing the National Police allowance is given, others will also make the same request." (Eps)
