medcom.id, Yogyakarta: Muhammadiyah citizens and activists in Yogyakarta criticize the attitude of National Police Criminal Investigation Bureau, as they considered the agency to be arrogant.
The assessment was published since the police has been too easy in naming a person suspect, if he/she is indirectly related to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Deputy Director Ahmad Syafii Maaruf School, Zuly Qodir, gave an example of the naming of the commissioner of Judicial Commission (KY) as suspect with allegation of the defamation of judge Sarpin Rizaldi. He thinks that it is inseparable from the case of anti-corruption agency's criminalization some time ago.
"Problems in the police institution should be stopped. If not, the police will have worse image and became more untrustworthy by the people," he stated at a press conference at Muhammadiyah Office, Cik Ditiro Street No. 23, Yogyakarta, Wednesday (7/15/2015).
He assessed the problem within the institution lies only to a number of people. "There are still lots of clean policemen needed support to conduct changes in the institution," he stated.
The Head of Nasiatul Aisyiyah, Norma Sari, admitted to be angered with the actions of Criminal Investigation Chief Comm. Gen. Budi Waseso, which is regarded as harassing Syafii Maarif as one of the nation's figures.
Norma thinks Budi Waseso's statement urging Buya Syafii not to meddle with law enforcement was regarded as an attitude of not appreciating inputs from public.
Budi Waseso is said not only failing to understand what was conveyed by Buya Syafii, but also failing to understand about law enforcement and corruption eradication.
"He was unable to catch the meaning of what was conveyed by Buya. Law enforcement should be at the front line of corruption eradication, not criminalizing corruption eradicators," Norma said.
Norma also referred to the failure of Budi Waseso in understanding the suspect naming of KY commisssioner. "See, after KPK is weakened, now it's the Judicial Commission," she stated.
The Director of Indonesia Court Monitoring (ICM) Yogyakarta, Tri Wahyu, urged President Joko Widodo to be consisted with his nine-pledges (nawacita). He asked the President to be bold enough in firing Budi Waseso from his position as the Chief of Criminal Investigation. (EPS)
