medcom.id, Jakarta: Commandant of Military Resort 174 of Merauke Regency, Brigadier General Supartodi said that prior to the 70th Indonesian Independence Day, the Indonesian Flag was lowered by force at the border area of Indonesia-Papua New Guinea (PNG).
"From the witness statements and evidence, the culprit was the PNG military personnel," mentioned Supartodi following a drama competition during the August 17 commemoration event in Merauke Regency, Saturday (8/15/2015).
Supartodi deliberated there were 14 PNG military personnel who forced local residents to lower the flags. "From the border authority investigation, there were several items left which belong to the Papua New Guinean military," he explained.
To anticipate this event from reoccurring, the Indonesian military added guard posts in the border areas. "The military added border posts and placed 18 of its men," he concluded.
Supartodi affirmed that the Indonesian military is prepared to raise arms in expelling the PNG military as it is considered to be within the category of foreign invasion.
