medcom.id, Jakarta: The Religion Ministry has launched an investigation after 177 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims were caught in the Philippines for using Philippine passports.
"We want to investigate the involvement of official Hajj travel agents in the case," Religion Ministry inspector general M. Jasin said here on Tuesday (8/16/2016).
The Religion Ministry has identified at least eight travel agents in the case. Any indication of fraudulent intents will be reported to the police.
The 177 pilgrims were caught at Manila airport last week. They are currently detained by Philippine immigration.
Saudi Arabia only allows 168,000 Hajj pilgrims from Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world.
