medcom.id, Jakarta: The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) refused to perform chemical castration to sex offenders. IDI Chairman Oetama Marsis mentioned that it violates IDI's Code of Ethics.
Oetama underlined IDI agrees that sexual violance against children is an extraordinary crime.
"We support harsh punishments for sex offenders. However, we don't want to be the executor for chemical castration punishment," Oetama told reporters in his office, Jakarta, on Thursday (6/9/2016).
The government previously issued Regulation in lieu of Law (Perppu) on harsher punishments for sexual violence against children. The law covers punishments such as death penalty and chemical castration.
Oetama advised the government to formulate standard operating procedure for chemical castration. He reiterated the executor must not be a doctor.
