medcom.id, Jakarta: Diaspora Indonesia held the 3rd Congress of Indonesian Diaspora in Hotel Luwansa, South Jakarta, Wednesday (8/12/2015). It is the third  congress after initiated in Los Angeles, United States (US) in 2012 as followed by the second congress in Jakarta a year after.

"We gathered from around the world to show our love to Indonesia. We came here with our own expenses to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indonesian Independence," said Indonesia Diaspora Chairman Edward Wanandi.

Edward said many world countries have used their diaspora potential well. For the Asian region, China and India are in the first and second places.

Chinese Diaspora returned income to their birthplace as many as US$780 billion, while India was at US$180 billion.

"In 2014, there were eight million Indonesians abroad. The income in the form of remittance has reached US$8.4 billion or Rp115 trillion," said Edward.

The donations from Indonesian Diaspora was even higher than the defense budget, as it is slightly lower than the 2014 educational budget.
