medcom.id, Jakarta: Non-active Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday.
"Pak Ahok's resignation letter for President Joko Widodo," the Home Affairs Ministry's regional autonomy director general Sumarsono said.
The blasphemy convict withdrew an appeal to the Jakarta High Court a day earlier. The independent politician was sentenced a two-year jail term by the North Jakarta District Court earlier this month.
The governor position will be filled by Jakarta Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat. The vice governor position will be left vacant.
"Hopefully we can complete the process by next week," Sumarsono said.
