24 Operational Days, Cipali Toll Has 'Taken' 12 Lives

medcom.id, Bandung: Now there is the new 'deadly' highway: Cipali Toll. The tollway connected Cikopo, Purwakarta, to Palimanan, Cirebon, West Java, where dozens of lives were taken.
 
Officiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on June 14, 2015, the toll have witnessed accidents by accidents. Even with its 24 days of age, West Java Police recorded 51 accidents occurred on Cipali.
 
The data was recorded since the inauguration of the tollway up to Tuesday, July 7. From the various accidents, 12 people have been killed, 12 experienced heavy injuries and 48 others with light injuries.

The Head of Police Unit of Cipali Highway Toll of the West Java Police Traffic Directorate AKP M. Taufik admitted the road condition within the tollway tend to be straight, well built and smooth. It also has enough lighting. However, the 116.75 kilometer-long driveway may cause fatigue and exhaustion to drivers.
 
According to Taufik, human error is the main cause of accidents in Cipali. Therefore, he asked for drivers to be careful in crossing the road connecting Cikopo and Palimanan.
 
"Accidents in Cipali generally were caused by human error. Sleepy, as they become less alert. So, drivers should be extra careful," M. Taufik said to Metrotvnews.com, earlier on Monday (7/6/2015).
 
Taufik has also asked drivers to confirm the prime condition of their vehicle before entering Cipali, for example, the tyre and brakes. Drivers must also maintain their stamina when seated behind the wheels.
 
"If sleepy or tired, rest for a while at the rest area, then continue the journey," M. Taufik said.
 
The most recent accident occurred at around 16.30 local time (WIB), Monday, July 6. The accident involved a Daihatsu Gran Max with a cement truck. Seven people were killed and four others injured. It is suspected that the Gran Max crash into the cement truck due to the driver's lack of alertness. (Eps)
