medcom.id, Jakarta: The National Police is still undergoing investigations on the accusations of two Indonesian citizens allegedly joining the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group. The police did not ignore the Indonesians working as AirAsia pilots.
"From the networking, we have not found any involvement in any domestic ISIS network. It is the investigation that we are conducting," National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti said at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta, Friday (7/10/2015).
Temporary investigation results mentioned the two former AirAsia pilots have conveyed support on ISIS through Facebook. However, both of them are not ISIS followers. They have only sympathized on the ISIS struggle.
"From the incident, AFP (Australian Federal Police) consider the two are ISIS. The problem is whether they have been to Syria? This is our investigation," the Police Chief stated.
Badrodin affirmed, one of the two former pilots is currently in Bogor, West Java. "Not in Syria. That is what we know. But the investigation is currently ongoing," he stated.
As known, the organization of foreign militant recruitment observers, Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflicts (IPAC), reported a rapid increase on Indonesians joining ISIS within the past few months.
"Between March 1 and June 1, 2015, 44 Indonesians were killed in Syria and Iraq," Sydney Jones, the Head of IPAC in Jakarta said, as quoted by The Intercept.
IPAC's statement emerged following the news of two Indonesian pilots allegedly joining ISIS. The allegations was published in a report of Australian Federal Police (AFP), made based on the investigation since September 2014.
Both pilots are Ridwan Agustin and Tommy Hendratno. Ridwan and his wife was known to be former employees of AirAsia airline.
Meanwhile, Tommy was know as a former military pilot trained in Paris and works for a local flight school.
From the 44 Indonesians reportedly killed in IPAC report, it is mentioned that one of them is Ridwan's friend in Facebook, Heri Kustyanto. Kustyanto, or known as Abu Azzam Qaswarah Al Indonesy, was one of the three Indonesians training within the ISIS elite force. (EPS)
