Presiden Wants a Populist Military

medcom.id, Cilegon: President Joko Widodo reminded that Indonesian National Military (TNI) was born out of the people. He is certain that with the people, TNI is strong. 
 
President conveyed that TNI should remember its identity as the people's military force, freedom fighters, national military and professionals.
 
"Great military commander General Sudirman stated that the connection of TNI with the people is like fish and water. Fish will never live without water. The people was the one conceiving, nurturing and raising the military," said the President in his speech when becoming the ceremonial inspector of the 70th anniversary of TNI, Jakarta, Monday (10/5/2015).

The ceremony was held in Dermaga Indah Kiat, Cilegon, Banten. Present in the occasion was the 6th Vice President Try Sutrisno, ministers of Working Cabinet (Kabinet Kerja) and thousands of TNI personnel.
 
President appreciated and respected the theme of the 70th anniversary, where with the people TNI is strong, great, professional, as they are prepared to realize the sovereign, independent and personalized Indonesia. 
 
"For that, TNI should affirm its identity as the people's army. TNI should not forget the people, TNI should not hurt the people's hearts, TNI should not make distance with the people, as they should be with the people," said the President.
 
President stated that it is only with the people that the military will be strong enough to conduct its duties, serving the country and state. Only with the people that TNI would be Coke a great military force, respected and comparable to other countries in the world.
 
"In the blood of TNI also flows the identity as a freedom fighter. TNI should have the fighting spirit, the spirit of not giving up in resolving a sovereign, independent and personalized Indonesia," he stated.
 
With the fighting spirit, said the president, TNI should be capable of maintaining Indonesia's sovereignty. TNI should be able to face the looters of marine and fishery resources. "TNI should be capable of guarding the border areas and keeping guard on the foremost islands," he exclaimed.
