medcom.id Jakarta: Basuki Tjahaja Purnama is believed to harvest more support after confirming to run independently on Jakarta's Gubernatorial Election in 2017. Currently, Jakarta residents supporting Ahok have reached 750,000 people.
Spokesperson for Teman Ahok volunteer group, Amalia Ayuningtyas, mentioned that more residents of the capital have come to the booths or posts of Teman Ahok (Ahok's Friends) in between their busy schedules to provide support for the incumbent governor.
To support Ahok in his independent run during the election, residents may give a copy of their Jakarta ID cards and fills up the available form. The form can also be downloaded at the website of Teman Ahok, or taken in the volunteer booths in several locations, or the main post in Pejaten Raya, South Jakarta.
Observing the current enthusiasm of public in supporting Ahok, Amalia believes that the support will become higher during the election.
"Those people, during the election day - which is clearly on a holiday, will definitely come to the election booths (TPS)," said Amalia at the Volunteer Post of Teman Ahok, Friday (3/11/2016).
The process of ID Card collection continues as the volunteers targeted a million IDs for Ahok. The regulation stated that the supporting IDs for an individual support to be a minimum of 7.5 percent of the eligible voters.
Currently, the volunteers are busy collecting their support for Ahok. However, during the voting day, they will ensure that these people to come to the voting booths.
Ahoy decided to run independently after PDI Perjuangan did not provide any certainties in their support. Ahok has named the Head of Financial and Asset Management Agency of Jakarta Administration, Heru Budi Hartono, as his deputy candidate.
The only political party stating their support to Ahok is NasDem. The party, led by Surya Paloh, has affirmed the support to Ahok without any conditions.
NasDem is restricted by the number of votes in the Jakarta Regional Representatives (DPRD) if it wants to name Ahok as a gubernatorial candidate from the political party. The vote of NasDem at the Regional House is only at 5 chairs, or 4.72 percent from the total of 106 chairs.
Law No. 8/2015 on Regional Elections have mentioned the requirements of individual or joint political parties to name a gubernatorial candidate, with at least 20 percent of the votes in the Regional House.
