medcom.id, Jakarta: President Joko Widodo and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto has urged calm ahead of a big demonstration in Jakarta on November 4.
Jokowi visited Prabowo at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java on Monday (10/31) afternoon.
"Religious and political leaders should reduce tension," said Jokowi after the meeting.
Jokowi mentioned the government will not stop the demonstration. Public protest is part of freedom of expression.
"We are multicultural country. We have various ethnicities, religions and races," Prabowo added.
A number of Islamic organizations will stage a mass protest against Jakarta governor candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in the capital on November 4.
