medcom.id, Jakarta: A plan to raise the status of National Narcotics Agency (BNN) will be reaized soon. Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said the regulation will be signed next week.
"May be the presdential regulation will complete next week," said Luhut in Surabaya, on Wednesday (3/17/2016).
Luhut affirmed that BNN will be a ministerial-level agency. "It will be similar with Counter-Terrorism National Agency. It will be under president but the coordination will be under coordinating minister," he explained.
The change of status is intended to boost BNN's authority in fighting drugs related crimes in Indonesia. The government views drugs as one of the threats for the country.
Last week, Ogan Ilir regent AW Nofiadi Mawardi was captured by BNN when he was using drugs.
