medcom.id, Jakarta: The Consumer Associaton of Indonesia (YLKI) mentioned that Indonesian people use 9.8 billion plastic bags annually, according to data from Greeneration and the Ministry of Environment in 2014-2015.
Chairman of YLKI Tulus Abadi said that Indonesia is placed only behind China. "Indonesia is placed second as the largest plastic waste contributor under China," said Tulus at his office, Jakarta, Wednesday (4/13/2016).
Tulus explained that Indonesia has chronic plastic waste problem. Around 32,000 stores spread 9.6 million to 11.68 million plastic bags daily.
The condition clearly affects the environment. "We have to start waging war against plastic, although we are left behind by other countries responding against the plastic waste," said Tulus.
Meanwhile, YLKI researcher, Natalya Kurniawati, said Malaysia and Bangladesh have earlier applied the policy to reduce plastic bags.
"Similar policies of reducing plastic bags are also implemented in Ireland, Australia, USA, China, Hawaii, Rwanda and other nations," she stated.
