Indonesian Navy Arrests Pirate Leader in Malacca Strait

medcom.id, Jakarta: The fast reaction team of the West Armada of Indonesian Navy, or West Quick Fleet Response (WQFR) arrests the leader of the pirate group taking actions in the Malacca Strait. He was captured at a hotel in East Jakarta.
 
The Head of Information of the Navy, Commodore M. Zainuddin explained that the arrest of the pirate leader was conducted following the arrest of the members of the group.
 
"A suspect named as Waskim has been arrested on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in a hotel in Pulogadung, Jakarta," mentioned Zainuddin when contacted yesterday evening.

The navy has previously captured Gayor, a member of Waskim's group in Batam, along with other members in Salak Mountain, Bogor. In total, there are 10 members of the syndicate captured by the navy. The group is specializing in the crime of spare part procurement on the boat, using violence. Their operating locations are not certain, depending on the security situations on the waters.
 
"Operating location in Malacca waters, Dumai and Jakarta waters," mentioned Zainuddin.
 
Waskim has been a fugitive for two months, as Zainuddin explained that the suspect is currently in the West Fleet Command Headquarters under the Navy Intel for investigation purposes.
 
Waskim's group was last known to pirate the Tanker Motor of Orkim Harmony in the beginning of June 2015, on the east of Johor Bahru. The ship carried 6,000 metric tons of oil equal in quality to Pertamax Plus, from Kuantan to Malacca. According to Zainuddin, Waskim and others are notoriously known as vicious. Aside from taking the belongings on the boat, the group would also kill when any victims are opposing.
 
So far, there are two large syndicates taking action in Malacca Strait, which are led by Waskim and M. Zakir. The Zakir group had been arrested on October.
 
Aside from Waskim, the fleet's troops also arrested a funder by the initial of UM, part of Waskim's group, in Koja, North Jakarta. Zainal said his party continued to develop the case as it is possible that the group has formed a cartel.
