medcom.id, Jakarta: The National Nuclear Power Agency (BATAN) assessed that the presence of multifunctional nuclear reactor GA Siwabessy (RSG-GAS) in Serpong has a great potential to be utilized for researches in various fields.
"RSG-GAS may be utilized in research and development in the field of material, industry, health and environment," said the head of BATAN, Djarot S. Wisnubroto, in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/6/2015).
He thinks through the nuclear reaction process between the neutron and uranium, which happened on the reactor's terrace, then there would be a population of neutron as much as 10 by 14 folds of neutron per centimeter per second.
"With the amount of population, neutron is very effective to be used for metal structure characteristics, analyzing environmental factor, or to analyze other substances more accurate compared to other methods," continued Djarot Wisnubroto.
Aside from the sophisticated facility, BATAN also owns non-neutron based characterization equipments such as X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy (SEM/TEM), Vibrating Simple Magnetometer (VSM) and other supporting units to be utilized by researchers.
"Not only researchers from BATAN, but also research institutes outside BATAN, universities and industry," he mentioned.
Djarot confessed he will gather researchers and industrial players from research institutions, universities or other stakeholders in an effort to optimize the utilization of research facilities.
